Summary
This memorial would request the Departments of Transportation & Game and Fish to work with the University of New Mexico division of government research to hold a workshop (by June 30th) to help collect and map data showing where wildlife-vehicle collisions occur in New Mexico, and identify road segments that have the highest number of wildlife-vehicle collisions.
The departments would also be requested to send a joint report detailing the results of the workshop (and any resulting follow-up activities) to the appropriate legislative interim committee, and apply for funding to establish wildlife safety zones.
Benefits of this memorial might be increased awareness of the dangers of wildlife-vehicle collisions, and opportunities to help prevent those collisions.
Outcome: HM 01 passed the House (51-0). Memorials and resolutions do not require action by the Governor.
