Summary
This bill requires that a public body must permit oral public comment before final action on any matter regarding formulation of public policy, including the development of personnel policy, rules, regulations or ordinances, discussing public business, or taking any action within the authority of the public body.
The public body must allow a reasonable amount of time for individual oral public comment and a reasonable total amount of time for oral public comment; and must allow for a diversity of viewpoints to be presented.
A potential benefit of this bill may be the increased likelihood that a public body will hear from, and be sensitive to the views of, its constituents when formulating public policy.
