Summary

This bill, regarding the taking or killing of an animal on private land, separates the provision for taking or killing an animal that presents an immediate threat to human life from the provision for an animal that has damaged or presents a threat of damage to property, including crops.

The bill clarifies that the taking or killing of an animal that has damaged or presents a threat of damage to property, but not to human life, is subject to rules that provide for a process including a complaint to the Department of Game and Fish and an opportunity for the department to propose interventions.

A possible benefit of this bill might be a reduction in the indiscriminate killing of animals that are considered a potential threat to property and crops but not to human life.
