Summary

The bill brings incorporates land grants-mercedes into the Colonias Infrastructure Act and renames the act the Colonias and Land Grants-Mercedes Infrastructure Act. The purpose of the Act (infrastructure development) and the substance remains the same, but will include land grants-mercedes as well as colonias. The bill amends the act throughout to change “colonias” to “colonias and land grants-merecedes.” Land grants-mercedes will be eligible for funding and will be represented on the Colonias and Land Grants-Mercedes Infrastructure Board by the chair of the Land Grant Council. The Executive Director of the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District is also added to the Board.

The bill may benefit the land grants-mercedes by providing needed funding for infrastructure development such as water and wastewater systems, solid waste disposal facilities, flood and drainage control, roads and housing, among other things.

This bill is for the Interim Land Grant Committee.
