Summary

This resolution amends the house rules pertaining to the standing committees by restructuring several the committees and forming new committees as follows:

  • Agriculture and Water Resources is changed to Agriculture, Water Resources and Wildlife.
  • Business and Industry and Labor and Human Resources are merged into Business and Employment.
  • Consumer and Public Affairs is changed to Regulatory and Public Affairs.
  • Energy and Natural Resources is changed to Energy, Environment and Natural Resources.
  • Health, Government and Indian Affairs is split into two separate committees:
  • Health, and
  • Government and Indian Affairs.
  • Safety and Civil Affairs is created as a new committee.
  • Taxation and Revenue is replaced by Ways and Means
  • Voters and Elections is eliminated.

Unchanged are:

  • Appropriations and Finance,
  • Education,
  • Judiciary
  • Transportation and Public Works

Possible concerns raised by this committee restructuring might be whether elimination of the Voters and Elections Committee might result in reduced attention to voter rights issues. More generally, the committee shakeup might have positive or negative consequences depending on how conservation issues are handled by the restructured committees.
