Summary

Senate Bill 274 creates a “horse shelter rescue fund” that will be administered by the Livestock Board with the intent of aiding New Mexico’s horse rescues and homeless horses. The Livestock Board is to adopt rules on the distribution of funds to horse rescue and retirement facilities that are registered with the Board.

The bill also authorizes an individual who is due an income tax refund from the State to designate any portion of that refund to be given to the horse shelter rescue fund instead.
