Summary
This bill adds a new paragraph to the existing law setting forth exceptions for fishing without a license. The bill would allow the Director of the Department of Game and Fish to waive the need for participants in designated events to hold hunting or fishing licenses by issuing a special permit for the event. While on its face the bill does not necessarily impact the conservation of wildlife, the types of events chosen potentially could.
The bill is a State Agency bill.
Update: the bill was amended in House Energy & Natural Resources Committee to narrow it’s scope — the committee substitute allows the Director of the Department of Game and Fish to issue a special permit for fishing events in lieu of fishing license requirements.
Outcome: HB 61 passed both the House (62-1) and Senate (40-0), and was signed into law on March 29th, 2013.
