Summary

This bill changes to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in odd-numbered years the dates of certain special district and political subdivision elections including:

  • school districts;
  • special hospital districts;
  • community college districts;
  • technical and vocational institute districts;
  • flood control authorities and districts;
  • the middle Rio Grande Conservancy District;
  • soil and water conservation districts; and
  • water and sanitation districts.

The House Government, Elections and Indian Affairs Committee Substitute for HB 338 includes all of the same material as the original bill and adds additional conforming sections regarding filing of candidacy and conduct of elections.

A possible benefit of this bill might be greater voter interest and turnout resulting in a more effective democratic process for electing officials of the affected districts and authorities.
