Summary
This bill includes as agricultural use of land, for the purpose of property tax valuation, a use pursuant to an agreement with an agency of the state or federal government or as required by state or federal law that:
- improves the capacity of the land to support agriculture or provides ecological services for public benefit,
- through land management practices that promote soil and water conservation, forest and rangeland health and critical wildlife habitats.
In one or more of the three prior years the land must either:
- have been used the production of plants, crops, trees, forest products, orchard crops, livestock, poultry, captive deer or elk, or fish; or
- have met the requirements for payment or other compensation pursuant to a soil conservation program under an agreement with an agency of the federal government.
A possible benefit of this bill might be that it will encourage landowners to dedicate land to supporting agriculture or soil, water, plant or animal conservation.
